Meeting my creative soulmate

Hey all

Here's something that happened with me:

On Second Life, I'm a fairy named Lemondrop Serendipity. In real life I'm a 38 year old woman. I work in the computer games industry, previously as an artist and animator, and in a way being those two things really enables me to create what I think is an artful identity and world in SL. Now that I'm more in the business side of things, I use SL as my creative workspace.. where I don't just shape myself and my avatar, but my entire little fairy wonderland which I have designed using my skills.. and the story that goes with it.

As an American, living and working abroad in Copenhagen, I found myself kind of lonely so I began to play SL. Only when I found some really creative people online did I take a shine to it. I hung around the Second Life Hobo scene, which was kind of a hypercreative, anarchistic counter-culture in the virtual world.

I met a little badger wearing a top-hat, one day, at a popular hobo hangout on SL called Lollygagger's Lane.. and he looked at me, and said.. Lemondrop.. you've got to meet Photon Pink-- let me show you her castle. He teleported me to this amazing place which looked like Candyland meets Wonderland meets Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, on mushrooms. It was an AMAZING, beautiful world. With flying pigs and a massive candy-like castle reaching up into the sky.. bubbling octopi and flying sharks and martian trees, and Photon's painting hanging on the wall inside. A glorious place.

And it was clear to me that Photon Pink, the person who was behind this world, was an incredible person. I fell in love with their skill and imagination and was determined to meet her. or him. or whatever. Photon was an artist and a great programmer at the same time, marrying his or her skills to create funstastical inventions, which are very popular in the virtual world.

A day or two later my badger friend finally got us together at his or her castle. Photon Pink's avatar, it turned out, was a very eccentric young girl with huge bug-eye round glasses and a beautiful Wonka-esque tophat with stars artfully pouring out from the top.

We started hanging out a lot on SL and found out that we had so much in common, it was spooky, and could practically complete each others' sentences. We video-skyped, me in Copenhagen and Photon in Los Angeles, and saw each others' faces in a very embarrassingly shy and charming way. It turns out that Photon was a petite, quiet, creative young man living in Southern California, in the same house where he grew up.

We would cook dinner together, with my laptop in the kitchen and camera on. I took the laptop on a trampoline once and talked with him while I was jumping up and down.. Shortly thereafter it was announced at work that we were opening an office in my hometown of san francisco. I leapt at the chance to move back and invited Photon to join me, if he wanted, to spread his wings and get away. So he moved up here shortly after I moved back, and we've been together ever since!

It's wonderful!

Lemondrop
